7/13/03 - The first nest finally hatches! YEA! Jack Hamilton, our Turtle Patrol head honcho, says that the nests are slow to hatch this year, likely due to the cool temperatures and rain that we experienced early in the nesting period. Nest #1 did not hatch until the 72nd day, nearly two weeks later than "normal". But now the early nests should start. Let the hatching begin!
6/23/03 - The first hatching patrols began this morning. The first nest reaches the 50 day mark this Saturday, so it is time to start watching for baby turtle tracks!
5/11/03 - Zone 5 gets it's first nest.
5/4/03 - It's official! Those loggerhead ladies started laying their nests early for the 2003 season. For the past few years Mother's Day weekend has been the date of the first nest, so this is roughly a week early. We hope that means this will be a banner year for nests.
4/29/03 - Nesting patrol begins this weekend on Kiawah. Keep a lookout for mama loggerheads if you are out strolling on the beach late at night!
