This is the latest news about loggerheads on Kiawah Island.

2007 Season - Kiawah had a total of 85 nests this year.

August 13, 2007 - There are now 84 nests on Kiawah's beach.  17 nests have hatched thus far.

July 24, 2007 - There are now 69 nests on Kiawah's beach.  The nest count is still very low for this time of year.  

July 23, 2007 - Kiawah's first nest (nest #2) has hatched! 

July 16, 2007 - We now have 66 nests on Kiawah's beach. 

July 10, 2007 - There are now 59 nests on Kiawah's beach.  

July 2, 2007 - There are now 52 nests on Kiawah's beach.  This is a low number compared to previous years.

June 30, 2007 - We now have 46 nests on Kiawah's beach.  

June 23, 2007 - There are now 39 nests on Kiawah's beach.  Compared to previous years, this is still pretty low for the end of June.

June 18, 2007 - Kiawah has 32 nests on the beach as of this morning.  Still a bit low for this time of year, but hopefully the mamas will get going soon!

June 10, 2007 - There are now 23 nests on Kiawah's beach. 

June 3, 2007 - Nest #1 was lost to the high tides from Saturday's (June 2nd) storm.

May 16, 2007 - Nesting season has officially begun!  The first nest of the season was located this morning.  This is one day earlier than last year. Go mama turtles!

April 24, 2007 - The annual training and t-shirt pick-up session was at 7:00 p.m. at the Sandcastle.  The fashionable turtle patroller will be wearing bright green this year.
